Zahedi date, which is also called
Ghasb date is cultivated in the Southern areas of Iran, mainly in Fars,
Bushehr, Khuzestan and Kerman provinces. It is 3-4 centimeters long and based
on maturity level, changes color from yellow to light brown.
The moisture content of Zahedi date is less
than 14% which is lower than the other types of dates. This fleshy flavorsome
date is less sweet than the other kinds of date which makes an ideal choice for
people who do not have a very sweet tooth.
The harvest season of Zahedi date is
different based on its plantation area, but normally starts in early September
and ends in late October.
Zahedi date contains potassium,
magnesium, protein and vitamins A,B,C and fructose. It is also loaded with
Folate, treats constipation, increases appetite and alleviates nervous tension
and anxiety.
Zahedi date does not need to be
refrigerated and can be kept in room temperature for 24 months. This may be a
reason why it is so popular in export and shipping industries.
